Eilish’s idol sings her praises in new interview

Everybody wants a piece of the Billie Eilish cake. Following Elton John, Thom Yorke and BABYMETAL, Tyler, the Creator is the latest musician to shout out the young pop star.

In a recent hour-long interview with Zane Lowe of Beats 1, Tyler discussed his new album ‘IGOR’, which arrived in May, and his list of dream collaborations. Among some of the artists he’d like to work with are Beyoncé, Jay-Z and, of course, music’s new favourite, Billie Eilish. Watch the video interview below.

That bitch is big. That n**** came from nowhere,” Tyler tells Lowe. “I think [her album ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’] is sick. I like her. I just want her to keep doing her goddamn thing.”

He added, “I wanna work with her. I don’t know what the fuck we would make, even if it don’t come out, if it’s trash, I still just wanna see what we could [do together].

Eilish, who’s an ardent fan of Tyler and his music, quickly took to social media to respond to the rapper’s admiration of her. “Lmfaoooooo I would never in a billion years have thought these words would come out of this man’s mouth. Wow. I would be nothing without you Tyler… Everyone knows it,” she gushed in an Instagram post.

Elsewhere in the interview, Tyler shared his thoughts on earning his first number one record on the Billboard 200. His album had put DJ Khaled’s ‘Father of Asahd’ in second place, a position the music mogul reportedly took to heart.

“No disrespect to Khaled or anyone, but this n**** had every person in the industry, everyone on that fucking album. Cardi B, 21 Savage, Travis Scott, Post Malone, Beyoncé and Jay. Everyone who sells billions of records and the fact that I beat him with this that isn’t parallel to all the popping music right now was fucking crazy, bro,” Tyler said.

“Like, that was insane to me. And it’s new to me bro. I’m on album five and six. And it’s work. It’s effort. It’s work. This is fucking whether n****s like it or not, bro, it’s so much work and detail put into this shit like, I’m so proud of myself,” he added.

When MTV announces the nominations for the 36th annual VMAs next week, Jonas Brothers, Billie Eilish, Lizzo and Panic! at the Disco are among the artists that are likely to be in the running for the marquee prize at the Aug. 26 telecast: video of the year.

Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy”

Eilish is expected to be a front-runner in numerous Grammy categories, including best new artist. This smash, which has climbed as high as No. 2 on the Hot 100, is a big reason why. MTV would love to spotlight her before the Grammys have a chance to do so. Four past newcomers have landed VMA noms for video of the year on their way to Grammy wins for best new artist. They are Cyndi Lauper (1984), Amy Winehouse (2007), Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (2013) and Alessia Cara (2017).

Cameron Hurley; guitarist of We Are In The Crowd and SAINTE, solo project by Tay Jardine; he made a version of the famous Billie Eilish song, “bad guy” imagined as pop punk, just as if it had been released from the 2001 album “Take Off Your Pants And Jacket” by blink-182.

Katy Perry in a recent interview with Iheart Radio said she loves Billie Eilish.

Billie Eilish‘s July has included two major highlights — a special Murakami exhibition and Justin Bieber remix — and the month’s far from over yet. German luxury label MCM has tapped the 17 year-old singer to star in its Fall/Winter 2019 campaign, demonstrating the collection’s genderless appeal.

Alongside rapper Childish Major, Eilish shows off a variety of transformative layering pieces and classic leather goods — in one shot, Major’s technical vest zips up into Eilish’s parka, demonstrating the new collection’s inherent fluidity. Lensed by rising London-based photographer Lea Colombo, the campaign utilizes a collage technique to both highlight the ease imparted by the versatile goods and the ever-shifting personal identities of Eilish and her Generation Z peers.

Key pieces range from baggy track suits to leather bucket hats to the brand’s clunky sneakers, with quilted coats and branded sweaters sporting neutral tones in stark contrast to the rich pink and natural leather of MCM‘s signature leather waist bags and backpacks. “I love to glorify the things that make people uncomfortable,” Eilish said in a statement. “We’re so used to one way of living that we think other peoples’ lifestyles are wrong — sometimes automatically, without even thinking. I want to mess with what people are used to. I want to be that other.”

Speaking on MCM’s renewed focus on ready-to-wear, MCM’s global creative officer Dirk Schönberger told WWD: “I’m not delusional: MCM is a leather goods brand, and we will not push that aside. But we want to build the ready-to-wear and shoes business organically.” Schönberger joined the German brand in October 2018, having worked as adidas’ creative director for eight years.

Expect the new collection to hit MCM’s website, physical boutiques and stockists like Neiman Marcus this month. Schönberger’s first complete collection for the brand arrives for Spring/Summer 2020.
