Billie Eilish, the 17-year-old who has quickly become one of today’s most powerful pop artists, has never been afriad of being candid about her personal struggles.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the “Bad Guy” musician opened up about her battle with body dysmorphia. Speaking at length, the singer, who was an avid dancer for years, discussed how it all started with the “really pretty girls” at school. “That was probably when I was the most insecure,” she said. “I wasn’t as confident. I couldn’t speak and just be normal. When I think about it or see pictures of me then, I was so not OK with who I was.”

It was also when Eilish, who almost always appears in over sized clothing, started feeling self-conscious about her body. “At dance, you wear really tiny clothes,” she said. “And I’ve never felt comfortable in really tiny clothes. I was always worried about my appearance. That was the peak of my body dysmorphia. I couldn’t look in the mirror at all.”

Studies indicate that body dysmorphia affects more than than five million people to nearly 10 million people in the United States alone, making it nearly as or even more common than obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).

The increasingly rigid beauty standards and rise of social media has further contributed to the disorder making young women more conscious of their appearance than ever.

Eilish, who is also a mental health advocate, also opened up about dealing with depression and self-harm after a dance injury caused her to quit dance altogether.

“I think that’s when the depression started,” she said. “It sent me down a hole. I went through a whole self-harming phase — we don’t have to go into it. But the gist of it was, I felt like I deserved to be in pain. When anyone else thinks about Billie Eilish at 14, they think of all the good things that happened. But all I can think of is how miserable I was. How completely distraught and confused. Thirteen to 16 was pretty rough.”

There are quite a few things which distinguish 17-year-old Billie Eilish from fellow alternative-pop artists, but probably the most notable, are her wild and outlandish stylistic choices. The young star is known for sporting over-the-top, baggy layers, in a multitude of clashing colours, and patterns, with loudly displayed brand logos. She recently interviewed with Vogue Australia, where she explained how a quote by fashion icon, Rihanna, about using fashion as a “defense mechanism,” had really spoken to her. “I feel like I’ve never felt something as strongly hearing someone else say it as I did when I heard her say that,” she said. “It’s always been that way for me. It’s always been my security blanket. It’s my way of expression without having to use words . . . Fashion is its own language and I use mine all day, every day. I always have.” Now, in a video interview with HypeBae, Eilish gives us a tour of her tour closet, detailing what makes up both her on- and off-stage looks.

We instantly see that her wardrobe almost exclusively contains an array of relaxed silhouettes, bright colors and bold graphics. As we delve in deeper, she breaks down what distinguishes betwen her camera-ready vs. more laid back looks, giving us an example of a more casual ensemble with a pair of leather pants bedazzled with a sequined “FUCK U MAN,” a matching Gucci embellished baseball jersey looking shirt, and some “heavy ass, chunky ass” Gucci shoes. She goes on to explain how she “cannot wear pants” onstage, and how she ends up opting for mid-length shorts usually. She goes on to tease a forthcoming collaboration with artist and designer Siberia Hills, and shows off a baggie full of diamond jewelry. She laughs as she reveals “I have very ratchet ways [of storing]… jewelry.”

Billie Eilish also rates being a teenager, Avril Lavigne, and more in this episode of Over/Under.

Billie Eilish doesn’t want you to know whether or not she’s “slim thick.

I never want the world to know everything about me,” Eilish shares in the new #MyCalvin’s campaign titled “I Speak My Truth.” “I mean, that’s why I wear big baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath.

Eilish is just one of the many stars to be a part of Calvin Klein’s new “I Speak My Truth” campaign. Launching today, May 9, the singer joins Alabama-born rapper Chika Oranika—who’s 2018 freestyle about Kanye West went viral and transformed her into a star—Noah Centineo, and Shawn Mendes, who debuted his shirt-less #MyCalvins underwear ad earlier this year, quenching the thirst of his die-hard fans’—and J. Lo’s (A-Rod chimed in, too), and mine, if we’re being quite honest.

As described by the brand, the new I Speak My Truth campaign “presents today’s most influential voices telling their own stories, in their own words – and invites others around the world to do the same.” In a series of videos directed by Jonas Lindstroem, each star in the campaign shares their personal truths through cheeky and emotional videos, including one where the internet’s usual goofy heartthrob, Noah Centineo, embraces his scars.

Starting today, Calvin Klein will roll out the campaign videos across their social platforms and encourage fans to speak their truth by using the hashtag #MyCalvins. Phase two of CK’s I Speak My Truth campaign will feature videos from A$AP Rocky, Bella Hadid, ELLE’s first transgender cover star Indya Moore, Kendall Jenner, Brockhampton’s Kevin Abstract, Troye Sivan, and Korean actor Yoo Ah-In.

That dude freaked the fuck out of me

Billie Eilish has admitted that she was “terrified” of Eminem while growing up.

The 17-year-old singer was speaking to Noisey when she explained how the rap icon used to be the stuff of nightmares for her.

When asked to choose her favourite rapper between Eminem and Childish Gambino, she admitted: ” I have to say Childish Gambino, one billion percent.

I was scared of Eminem my whole life,” she continued. “Terrified. That dude freaked the fuck out of me. Oh my god. But you know, Childish Gambino created me dude. I don’t even know, that’s crazy, that’s a god you can’t even put him in a list of other people.

The same question was then posed for Biggie and Tupac, with the ‘When The Party’s Over’ singer opting for the former.

Honestly Biggie. I feel like Tupac’s vibe is cooler. Biggie’s voice just feels like a big heavy warm blanket on you, which is probably what it feels like if he laid on top of you.”

Billie Eilish wants people to stop comparing her to Lana Del Rey: “Do not disrespect Lana like that!”.

Billie Eilish has spoken about being compared to other artists, suggesting that it’s disrespectful to the stars she’s measured against.

The pop star has been specifically compared to Lana Del Rey in recent months, as well as other acts including Avril Lavigne and Lorde.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Eilish said: “Everybody’s always trying to make everybody compete,” she said. “They’re like, ‘Billie’s album might pass Ariana’s…’ But just stop. I don’t care. I don’t want to hear that Billie Eilish is the new Lana Del Rey. Do not disrespect Lana like that!

“That woman has made her brand so perfect for her whole career and shouldn’t have to hear that.” She added that she doesn’t want to the cycle to continue once another new female artist arrives on the scene either, saying: “I don’t want to hear that somebody’s the new Billie Eilish in a couple of years.”

Last week (April 5), Eilish became the youngest ever female solo act to claim the Number One spot on the Official UK Albums Chart. Her debut album ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ went straight to the top of the charts, earning the 17-year-old the record.

Joss Stone previously claimed the title when she released her 2004 album ‘Mind, Body & Soul’. However, she was two months older than Eilish at the time.

Meanwhile, the cast of the US version of The Office had to personally clear a sample used on Eilish’s song ‘My Strange Addiction’. The track features dialogue clips from the episode “Threat Level Midnight”.
